The Conversation About Silence

Embrance Silence

My job title is Chief Conversationalist. I like talking. I like listening. I love being in conversation. But getting used to silence has been an ongoing goal that I've had for many, many years.

Even in my line of work, where talking is paramount – I’ve found silence to be invaluable.  The time and space to be alone in my thoughts, to calm my mind, centre my spirit, and frame my mindset for the day. I love giving myself time to really hear my own thoughts and tune in to my body language.

These days, I find my silence through my meditations. I take time to sit quietly, whether I’m stretching or being still, I focus my attention on my breath.  As part of my meditation practice, I am silent throughout.

Last Christmas, I took a week sabbatical, and I went somewhere I couldn't access my phone – absolutely no phone access at all. So no social media, emails, SMS, phone calls - nothing online at all for a whole week. And it was… amazing!

I wasn't in silence, I was talking to other people. But just the silence of not having technology around for that week was the best thing that I ever could have done with that week of my time. I returned invigorated, fresh, calm and ready to step back into my busy life.

So my question for you today is “how and when do you create moments of silence in your life?” Do you also have a meditation practice or some other kind of ritual? Maybe it’s as simple as taking some deep breaths while you wait for the kettle to boil, but I'd love to hear how you create silence in your life, whatever that means to you.

So if you would like to share that then please feel free to drop me a message. If you're interested in this, and other kinds of mindset tips, you can go to www.beingmorehuman.com.au, and read the info available. My Being More Human book has a whole section focused on mindset, and you’ll begin to understand the role of silence plus a whole range of other mindset strategies that you can deploy in your life by as a result of reading the book.

So have a great day, and try and grab some silence where you can! Of if you’d like to start a discussion about Silence, you can book a call with me here. https://calendly.com/michellecrawfordbmh/15-minute-exploration-call
